Toward Excellence, Access and Success (TEXAS) Grant


Beginning Fall 2014, Public community colleges will only be able to award TEXAS Grant to those students who previously received the TEXAS Grant funding. In addition to satisfying general eligibility requirements, a recipient must meet the following criteria to receive a continuation award through the TEXAS Grant Program:

  • Have previously received an initial award through this program;
  • Show financial need;
  • Be enrolled at least three-quarter time unless granted a hardship waiver of this requirement under Section 22.231 of this title (relating to Hardship Provisions);
  • If an initial TEXAS Grant award was received prior to fall 2014, be enrolled in an undergraduate degree or certificate program at an eligible institution; if an initial TEXAS Grant award was received in fall 2014 or later, be enrolled in a baccalaureate degree at a medical or dental unit or general academic teaching institution other than a state college;
  • Not have been granted a baccalaureate degree;
  • Have a statement on file with an institution that indicates registration with selective service as required by federal law or is exempt from selective service registration under federal law; and
  • If an initial TEXAS Grant award was received prior to fall 2014, make satisfactory academic progress towards an undergraduate degree or certificate, as defined in Section 22.229 of this title (relating to Satisfactory Academic Progress); if an initial TEXAS Grant award was received in fall 2014 or later, make satisfactory academic progress towards a baccalaureate degree at an eligible institution, as defined in Section 22.229 of this title.

Grant recipients must complete at least 24 semester credit hours each academic year to receive continuing eligibility. In addition, satisfactory academic performance standards and other requirements are required to renew eligibility each year.
