Admission Requirements for International Students

Dallas College must comply with federal law to enroll international students as provided in FB (LEGAL) and (LOCAL) and as guided by the US Department of Homeland Security. An applicant seeking F-1 or M-1 admission must visit Dallas College international student admissions web page for details on requirements and how to apply.

All international applicants/prospective students at Dallas College MUST:


  1. Visit Dallas College web page for international student admissions for detailed information and how to apply as an F1 orM1 international student.
  2. Meet one of the following criteria for demonstrating English language proficiency for college-level F1 admissions consideration:
    • TOEFL scores of 530 or higher on the paper-based version, or a TOEFL score of a 71 or higher on the internet-based version. The Educational Testing Service must send your score directly to Dallas College.
    • IELTS overall score of 6.0 or higher. The British Council must send your score directly to Dallas College where applied.
    • Duolingo English Test score of 100 or higher. Dallas College will receive your certified results within 48 hours of the test session when you request to send your results to Dallas College.
    • ACCUPLACER (ESL). Results will be evaluated by Dallas College ESOL faculty/international staff to determine if proficiency is met.
    In order to be exempt from taking/submitting TOEFL or IELTS scores, you must meet one of the following criteria:

    • Earned a high school diploma from a high school in the English education system in any English-speaking countries/regions
    • Completed a minimum one term of full time post-secondary academic studies in the United States, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand where English proficiency is required for admission
    • Provide an acceptable GCE Ordinary Level or Advanced Level results, GCSE results, or acceptable Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations [SSCE] results of by the West African Examinations Council
    • You are a citizen of Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Botswana, British Virgin Islands, Canada (except Québec), Cayman Islands, Dominica, The Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia, Micronesia, Montserrat, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Rwanda, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, Uganda, United Kingdom, Zimbabwe
    • You have an official transcript from an accredited college or university in the United States showing a grade of "C" or better for English 1301 or the equivalent and/or other courses as determined by TSI rules to qualify for a waiver
    • You have successfully completed the final level of an intensive English program of Dallas College
    • You have met the TSI requirement in reading and writing through successfully completing the TSI test, are otherwise exempted from taking the TSI test in reading and writing, and/or present scores from an assessment test approved by Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board under TSI.
    • Note: TSI may still be required even if the required TOEFL/IELTS scores are submitted. Applicants/prospects from native English-speaking countries may be waived from the TOEFL/IELTS requirement but may not be waived from taking the TSI assessment.
  3. Show documented evidence of sufficient financial support for the academic year.
  4. Submit an official transcript from each U.S. college or university previously attended with a minimum of 2.0 GPA.
  5. Provide a copy of your passport.
  6. Provide official written medical proof of freedom from tuberculosis through either a negative Mantoux tuberculin skin test or chest x-ray that was given in the United States within the last year.
  7. Provide official written medical proof of bacterial meningitis vaccination. Bacterial meningitis vaccination is required for anyone who is 21 years of age or younger. Dallas College recommends that all prospective students have adequate immunizations for diphtheria; rubeola, rubella, mumps, tetanus and poliomyelitis (see Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements for College Entry and Department of Health and Human Services Recommended Adult Immunization Schedule).
Transfers within the United States from Other Schools

In addition to the requirements stated above, international students transfer from another U.S. institution of higher education MUST complete the F1/M1 SEVIS record transfer process within 15 days of the start of classes as required by federal regulations.

All transfer international applicants/prospective students at Dallas College MUST:

  1. Present documentation indicating valid international student visa status, including evidence of enrollment in a full course of study during the term immediately preceding transfer from the institution last authorized by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to attend.
  2. Provide copies of I-20 from previous schools.
  3. Provide most recent copy of I-94.
  4. Copy of visa stamp or USCIS Approval Notice of Action if changed status to F1 within the U.S.

Health Insurance and International Students

Dallas College strongly recommends that international students obtain health insurance for the duration of their studies. Lack of health insurance puts a student at risk of serious financial challenges if medical expenses are incurred and a student is unable to pay.
