The colleges of the DCCCD offers several opportunities for students who choose to be teachers the Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) degree, an academic program of study leading to a Texas Teacher Certification. Associate of Applied Science Degrees are technical programs that lead to career paths, teacher assistants, and child care workers. Programs may also be articulated through agreements for university transfer.
The Alternative Teacher Certification program is designed for people who have earned baccalaureate degrees and are seeking a career change to teaching. This continuing education program meets state requirements with the goal of preparing people for the State Board Educator Texas Certification Exam. Mountain View College offers this program especially designed to prepare qualified teachers for Texas classrooms.
The ESL Teaching Academy at Eastfield college offers hands-on training delivered by faculty and experienced, practicing professionals in the field of ESL and TESOL. The academy is a weekend-college program throughout the semester, with the summer being the only time when classes are offered in a fast-track mode.
