The Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN) is a Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) approved baccalaureate degree program consisting of upper and lower division courses. The degree was awarded approval from Texas Board of Nursing (TBON) in September of 2022. Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) granted approval in December of 2023. The complete degree plan consists of 120-semester credit hours and also includes a pathway that can lead to the opportunity to become a Certified Spanish Medical Interpreter (Students must meet the criteria set by the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI) or Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) for Medical Spanish Interpreters).
Students that are currently in the Dallas College Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) program should speak with their designated success coach about the steps to take to complete the RN-BSN pathway at Dallas College.
NOTE: The RN-BSN degree program is focused on preparing the registered nurse who already holds an associate degree in nursing for a wide variety of professional roles and graduate study. The requirements for the Bachelor of Applied Science in Nursing are clearly shown in curriculum degree plans in Dallas College catalog and is also located under Career and Technical Education Programs. Students seeking such a degree should become familiar with the specific required courses in the appropriate curriculum degree plans and request advisement regarding these courses as needed.
The RN-BSN Nursing program degree consists of general courses, lower division, upper division, and additional course work for the specific degree. Students are encouraged to complete the entire Core courses here at Dallas College. Students are required to have all prerequisite courses with a minimum grade of "C" or higher and a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 or higher on prerequisite courses.
Students enrolling in this program from another institution should also consult with a success coach regarding transfer requirements and the transferability of their courses. Upper-level courses from another accredited institution courses will not be considered for transfer.
NOTE: The Spanish Medical Interpreter certification is not a requirement for the RN-BSN Nursing program. It is the responsibility of the student to understand the requirements needed to become a certified Spanish Medical Interpreter.
