The Associate Degree Nursing Program is a four-semester, 60 credit hour program leading to the Associate in Applied Sciences Degree. The program prepares graduates to be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN Examination to become licensed as a Registered Nurse (R.N.) in Texas. The program combines classroom and skills laboratory experience with clinical experience.
Applicants must:- Fulfill all requirements for admission to both the college and the Associate Degree Nursing Program.
- Complete the designated assessment testing process and any required remediation, including the state TSI math requirement.
- Complete all prerequisite courses with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.
- Submit a completed admission application packet to the Allied Health Admissions Office via email at AlliedHealthAdmissons@dcccd.edu during the designated filing period.
Students who are pursuing an Associate Degree to be a registered nurse will follow the degree plan below.
Dallas College Nursing LVN-RN Advanced Placement Associate Degree Nursing Program Option Only
A Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) may complete the Associate Degree Nursing Program (LVN to RN). LVN's who are accepted to the Advanced Placement Program transition into the second semester of the Associate Degree curriculum to complete the final three semesters of the traditional Associate Degree Nursing program. The student must have a valid unrestricted/unencumbered LVN license. Upon completion of the LVN-RN Advanced Placement Program, the student will be awarded an additional 8 semester credit hours of equivalency (articulated) credit for the following courses.
This 1.5 year/ 3 semester curriculum completes the 60 hours required for an Associate in Applied Science Degree (AAS), Associate Degree Nursing (LVN-RN Advanced Placement Program Option).

The program offered at North Lake campus is under the administration and accreditation of the El Centro Campus Associate Degree Nursing Program. The program combines classroom and skills laboratory experience.
A Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) may complete the Associate Degree Nursing Program (LVN to RN).
Advanced Placement ("Bridge") Program at El Centro Campus only:
Integration of previous health care knowledge and skills into the role development of the professional nurse as a provider of patient-centered care, patient safety advocate, member of health care team, and member of the profession. This program lends itself to a concept-based approach.
LVN's who are accepted to the Advanced Placement Program enroll into three advanced placement or "bridge" courses: a three-credit hour lecture course (RNSG 1324), a one-credit-hour skills component (RNSG 1118), and a one-credit hour nursing competencies component (RNSG 1126) which involve 2-3 full days of classes for the first semester of the Advanced Placement Program. After successful completion of the "bridge" semester courses, the student transitions into the third semester of the Associate Degree curriculum to complete the final two semesters of the traditional Associate Degree Nursing program. At the completion of the program, 13 additional credit hours are awarded for selected courses from the first two semesters of the traditional Associate Degree Nursing program.

Degree Plan Code: ES.NURS.PERIOP.INTERN
This two-semester program offers registered and graduate nurses the opportunity to acquire additional theory and skills required for patient care in the surgical setting. The perioperative approach to patient care is employed. Principles of surgical asepsis, patient care, use of surgical supplies and equipment, and ethical/legal aspects are presented. The emphasis of the program is on the scrub and circulating roles in perioperative nursing. Nurses enrolled in this program must hold a current license from the Board on Nursing for the State of Texas or be a graduate of a nursing program eligible for the next NCLEX-RN examination.
