CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY -- COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION

This apprenticeship program, through North Lake campus partnership with the Construction Education Foundation (CEF), has been nationally approved by the National Center for Construction Education Center and Research (NCCER). Graduates of this award will be prepared for employment as a journeyman craft person. Successful completion of the entire curriculum and coordinated on-the-job training prepares the student for the required county, state or federal examinations. The student will also acquire math, science, communications, planning, problem solving, human relations, and management skills.

Students interested in a high demand career that is fast-paced with job opportunities--the Construction Industry is for you. The Construction Technology program is designed to develop the hands-on skills and technical knowledge necessary so that a graduate may advance in career paths appropriate to their own interests and abilities. Some of the exciting career options include: field engineer, estimator, building inspection, insurance and manufacturing representative, field supervisor, sub-contractor, and builder in either commercial or residential construction/home building. A graduate will have also covered skills in other areas such as planning, and organization, problem solving and decision making, related communication, and business and human relations.

CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY--SURVEYING TECHNOLOGY AAS

Surveyors make precise measurements to determine property boundaries. They provide data relevant to the shape and contour of the Earth's surface for engineering, mapmaking, and construction projects. They use a variety of measuring equipment and technologies depending upon the type of survey including modern Total Stations, Digital Levels, the Global Positioning System (GPS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and remote sensing systems including Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). Boundary or land surveyors are licensed by individual States to determine the legal property lines and help determine the exact locations of real estate and construction projects. Surveyors also work with civil engineers, landscape architects, cartographers and photogrammetrists, and urban and regional planners to develop comprehensive design documents.
