Degree and Certificate Requirements

This provision applies to:

  • Certificates,
  • Reverse Transfers,
  • Associate Degrees,
  • Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees,
  • Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) degrees,
  • Advanced Technical Certificates, and
  • Enhanced Skills Certificates.

In addition to other graduation requirements detailed in each individual degree plan, you must complete course requirements for your degree or certificate within five (5) years of the catalog year selected.

Up-to-date official transcripts of all previous coursework attempted must be received before a degree or certificate will be awarded. If you fail to submit transcripts from other institutions attended, you will not receive a degree or certificate.

In order to be eligible for multiple associate degrees, at least 15 hours within any additional degree must be unique to that degree and not part of any degrees previously earned from Dallas College. Students may not receive both the Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree and the Associate of Science (A.S.) degree.

In order to meet graduation requirements for Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees that do not include MATH, students must successfully complete a natural science course with a grade of "C" or better to graduate.

To earn any degree or certificate, a student must complete at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College and courses taken cannot include credit-by-exam courses. The following courses will not be counted toward any degree requirements:

  • Courses numbers below 1000,
  • ARTS 1170,
  • DIRS 9170, 9270, 9370,
  • DRAM 1121, and
  • MUSI 9176 and 9378.

Students should apply for graduation prior to the term in which they intend to graduate. An Application for Graduation may be filed at the Admissions and Student Records/Registrar's Office on any campus of Dallas College. Students who have met all TSI requirements, degree/certificate, and graduation requirements will be awarded their degree or certificate of completion at the end of the appropriate term. Application for Graduation is recommended to ensure that each eligible student receives a graduation audit. This audit may include course substitutions and review of transfer coursework, as well as notification of graduation activities and commencement.

Dallas College reserves the right to modify or make changes in degree or certificate curricula as appropriate. You, the student, have the ultimate responsibility to select and register for courses to complete your degree or certificate and meet graduation requirements. Dallas College may graduate current and former students who have met graduation requirements with or without the student's permission.

For information on how to request your official Program of Study Audit, refer to the Filing an Official Program of Study and Choosing a Catalog Year webpage in the catalog.

Before the beginning of your first semester, you should select a Program of Study on eConnect. If you are seeking an associate degree, you should request an official Program of Study Audit from the Registrar's Office no later than at the end of your freshman year. Official transcripts of all previous college work must be on file at the time you request an official Program of Study. The application for granting a degree should be filed in the Registrar's Office prior to the deadline announced by the Registrar.

Students receiving federal financial aid are required to select an Eligible Program of study by logging on to eConnect and choosing a program from the list at FA Program Selection.
