Course Description: Magnetic resonance imaging. Focuses on the underlying scientific theory and practice leading to magnetic resonance imaging. Includes the concepts and scientific principles employed in magnetic resonance imaging techniques. Emphasis on principles of magnetism and interactions of living matter within magnetic fields. Learning Outcomes: Explain the safety hazards and the control of ferromagnetic materials near a magnetic resonance imager; describe the basic construction of magnetic resonance imaging devices; and relate various radiofrequency pulse sequences to their use in diagnostic imaging. Analyze the effect of a change in spin density, relaxation time, and phase coherence; and compare and contrast various radiofrequency pulse sequences used in magnetic resonance imaging. (3 Lec.)
