ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING

The Associate Degree Nursing Program is a two-year, 60 credit hour program, leading to the Associate of Applied Science Degree. The program prepares graduates to be eligible to write the NCLEX-RN Examination to become licensed as a Registered Nurse (R.N.) in Texas. The program is accredited by the Texas Board of Nursing (333 Guadalupe, Suite 3-460, Austin, Texas 78701: Telephone number 512-305-7400) and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (3343 Peachtree Road, NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326: Telephone number: 404-975-5000; fax: 404-975-5020).

The program offered at North Lake is under the administration and accreditation of the El Centro College Associate Degree Nursing Program. Students will attend classes at North Lake, but receive their degrees from El Centro. The program combines classroom and skills laboratory experience.

A Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) may complete the Associate Degree Nursing Program (LVN to RN).

Advanced Placement ("Bridge") Program at El Centro College only:

Integration of previous health care knowledge and skills into the role development of the professional nurse as a provider of patient-centered care, patient safety advocate, member of health care team, and member of the profession. This program lends itself to a concept-based approach.

LVN's who are accepted to the Advanced Placement Program enroll into three advanced placement or "bridge" courses: a three-credit hour lecture course (RNSG 1324), a one-credit-hour skills component (RNSG 1118), and a one-credit hour nursing competencies component (RNSG 1126) which involve 2-3 full days of classes for the first semester of the Advanced Placement Program. After successful completion of the "bridge" semester courses, the student transitions into the third semester of the Associate Degree curriculum to complete the final two semesters of the traditional Associate Degree Nursing program. At the completion of the program, 13 additional credit hours are awarded for selected courses from the first two semesters of the traditional Associate Degree Nursing program.

++BIOL 1406 Biology for Science Majors I or CLEP exam are prerequisites to BIOL 2401 Anatomy and Physiology I.

A grade of "C" or better is required for all courses. Support courses must be completed before or during the semester indicated.

The Associate Degree Nursing Program is a five-semester, 60 credit-hour program leading to the Associate of Applied Science Degree. The program prepares graduates to be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN Examination to become licensed as a Registered Nurse (R.N.) in Texas. The Mountain View College Nursing Program is accredited by the Texas Board of Nursing (333 Guadalupe Street, Suite 3-460, Austin, Texas 78701; Telephone number 512-305-7400) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

The program combines classroom and skills laboratory experience with hospital clinical experience.

Applicants must:

1. Fulfill all requirements for admission to both the college and the Associate Degree Nursing Program.
2. Complete the designated assessment testing process and any required remediation, including the state TSI math requirement.
3. Complete the four prerequisite courses in English, Biology, Psychology, and Math with a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or better.
4. Submit a completed admission application packet to the nursing admission office at Mountain View on or before the enrollment period deadline. Information sessions are available to further discuss the application process to the program.

PERIOPERATIVE NURSING

Degree Plan Code: ES.NURS.PERIOP.INTERN

This two-semester program offers registered and graduate nurses the opportunity to acquire additional theory and skills required for patient care in the surgical setting. The perioperative approach to patient care is employed. Principles of surgical asepsis, patient care, use of surgical supplies and equipment, and ethical/legal aspects are presented. The emphasis of the program is on the scrub and circulating roles in perioperative nursing. Nurses enrolled in this program must hold a current license from the Board on Nursing for the State of Texas, or be a graduate of a nursing program eligible for the next NCLEX-RN examination.
