PORT 1411 (4 Credit Hours)
This course is not currently offered by North Lake College. Offered at BHC, RLC Beginning Portuguese I This is a Texas Common Course Number. This is a Core Curriculum course selected by the colleges of DCCCD. Prerequisite Required: College level ready in Reading. Course Description: This is the first semester of academic transfer Portuguese. This course is an introductory course intended for students with little or no knowledge of the language. Its aim is to present essential vocabulary and grammar, and to develop the pronunciation, listening, reading, and writing skills necessary for basic communication and comprehension. Customs and cultural insights are also presented. This course is cross-listed as PORT 1311, which is also used in Study Abroad programs. Students may register for either PORT 1311 or PORT 1411 but may receive credit for only one of the two. (3 Lec., 2 Lab.) Course Description: This is the second semester of academic transfer Portuguese. This course continues the oral practice, reading, writing, grammar and cultural studies begun in PORT 1411. Students are expected to acquire a substantial amount of vocabulary and begin to deal with idiomatic language and more advanced syntax. This course is cross-listed as PORT 1312, which is used only in Study Abroad programs. Students may register for either PORT 1312 or PORT 1412 but may receive credit for only one of the two.
