CHIN 1411 (4 Credit Hours)
This course is not currently offered by North Lake College. Offered at BHC, RLC Beginning Chinese I This is a Texas Common Course Number. This is a Core Curriculum course selected by the colleges of DCCCD. Prerequisite Required: College level ready in Reading. Course Description: This is the first semester of academic transfer Chinese. This course is an introductory course intended for students with little or no knowledge of the language. Its aim is to present essential vocabulary and grammar, and to develop the pronunciation, listening, reading, and writing skills necessary for basic communication and comprehension. Customs and cultural insights are also presented. This course is cross-listed as CHIN 1311, which is also used in Study Abroad programs. Students may register for either CHIN 1311 or CHIN 1411 but may receive credit for only one of the two. (3 Lec., 2 Lab.) This is a Core Curriculum course selected by the colleges of DCCCD. Prerequisite Required: CHIN 1411 or the equivalent or demonstrated competence approved by the instructor. Course Description: This is the second semester of academic transfer Chinese. This course continues the oral practice, reading, writing, grammar and cultural studies begun in CHIN 1411. Students are expected to acquire a substantial amount of vocabulary and begin to deal with idiomatic language and more advanced syntax. This course is cross-listed as CHIN 1312, which is used only in Study Abroad programs. Students may register for either CHIN 1312 or CHIN 1412 but may receive credit for only one of the two.
