A Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, does not have to be repaid. Federal Pell Grants are usually awarded only to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor's or a professional degree. You may not be eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant if you are incarcerated in a federal or state penal institution or are subject to an involuntary civil commitment upon completion of a period of incarceration for a forcible or non-forcible sexual offense.
All students may receive Pell Grants for up to 12 semesters, measured by percentage of Scheduled Award(s) Disbursed Lifetime Eligibility Used or 600%.
For students who are enrolled in an "eligible career pathway program" who do not have a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent or have not completed a secondary school education in a homeschool setting, may be eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant.
