The Cost of Attendance (COA) figures provide an estimate of costs to attend North Lake College for a traditional nine-month academic year. The Financial Aid Office must ensure any federal, state or local financial aid award does not exceed a student's COA. The COA for the colleges of DCCCD is revised and recorded annually with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
Elements of the official Cost of Attendance (COA) include:
- Tuition
For purposes of financial aid, tuition is based on half-time enrollment. The actual costs that a student incurs will vary depending upon the student's degree or certificate program and the enrollment status. Please visit the Tuition page in the catalog to learn more about actual tuition rates. - Room and Board
The figures used to determine this portion of the COA are reasonable estimates of cost of living in Dallas while attending school. Actual costs may vary by individual choices, location, and circumstances. The Financial Aid Office will not increase the COA based on individual choices unless extenuating circumstances are presented to and accepted by the Financial Aid Office. - Books
These costs are estimated based on the bookstores of DCCCD colleges. - Transportation
The transportation allowance is based on an average of public transportation. - Personal Expenses
This is a reasonable allowance for miscellaneous personal expenses during the enrollment period.
An individual student's COA will vary according to the number of registered credit hours, residency status, and housing choices.

Excessive Hours
Students should take care when selecting additional courses to be transferred toward a Baccalaureate degree. House Bill 1172 allows an institution to charge the equivalent of out of state tuition for credit hours taken beyond the state limits. State limits are:
For students entering public Texas institutions Fall 1999 - Summer 2006 who attempt 45 hours beyond what is required for Baccalaureate degree (120 hours). For students entering Fall 2006 and thereafter who attempt 30 hours beyond the hours required for a Baccalaureate degree. It is recommended that students take minimal hours beyond degree requirements to avoid possible higher tuition charges at the institution to which they are transferring.
