This provision applies to certificates, reverse transfers, associate degrees, associate of applied science degrees, advanced technical certificates, and enhanced skills certificates. In addition to other graduation requirements (detailed in each individual degree plan), you must complete the course requirements for your degree or certificate within five (5) years of the catalog year selected.
Up-to-date official transcripts of all previous course-work attempted must be received before a degree or certificate will be awarded. If you fail to submit transcripts from other institutions attended, you will not receive a degree or certificate.
In order to be eligible for multiple associate degrees, at least fifteen (15) hours within any additional degree must be unique to that degree and not part of any degrees previously earned from the colleges of the DCCCD. Students may not receive both the Associate of Arts and the Associate of Science degrees.
For any degree or certificate earned in the college, a student must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction (not credit-by-examination) by the college of the DCCCD granting the award. The degree must be awarded by a college that offers the program in which you majored. The Registrar must approve correspondence work for graduation credit. If you qualify for a degree from more than one college of the DCCCD, you must indicate which college is to award the degree. The following courses will not be counted toward any degree requirements: Courses numbered below 1000, ARTS 1170, DIRS 9170, 9270, 9370, DRAM 1121, MUSI 9176 and 9378.
Students should apply for graduation prior to the term in which they intend to graduate. An Application for Graduation may be filed at the Admissions/Registrar's Office of the college from which the student plans to graduate. Students who have met all TSI requirements, degree/certificate, and graduation requirements will be awarded their degree or certificate of completion at the end of the appropriate term. Application for Graduation is recommended to ensure that each eligible student receives a graduation audit. This audit may include course substitutions and review of transfer course-work, as well as notification of graduation activities and commencement.
The college reserves the right to modify or make changes in degree or certificate curricula as appropriate. You, the student, have the ultimate responsibility to select and register for courses to complete your degree or certificate and meet graduation requirements. Each college may graduate current and former students who have met graduation requirements with or without the student's permission.
For information on how to request your official degree plan, please see the Official Degree Plan page.
Associate Degree Plans
Before the beginning of your first semester, you should select a Program of Study on eConnect. If you are seeking an associate degree, you should request an official degree plan from the Registrar's Office no later than at the end of your freshman year. Official transcripts of all previous college work must be on file at the time you request an official degree plan. The application for the granting of the degree should be filed in the Registrar's Office prior to the deadline announced by the Registrar.
Students receiving federal financial aid are required to select an eligible program of study by logging on to eConnect and choosing a program from the list at FA Program Selection. Making a program selection for financial aid purposes is not the same as requesting a degree plan or applying for the granting of a degree.
