WELDING TECHNOLOGY - GAS METAL ARC WELDING (GMAW)

  • Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by the college awarding the degree.

The Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) certificate program is designed to qualify students in the gas metal welding processes on either plate or pipe in accordance to the American Welding Society (AWS) or the American Petroleum Institute (API) welding procedures. These courses can be offered concurrently as CEU courses.

The certificate program provides learning experiences and/or capstone experiences in accordance to AWS D1.1 or API 1104 certifications.

Students will acquire the necessary skills to perform a wide variety of manual and CNC machining operations involving both, vertical milling and turning equipment. Upon completion of this award, students will be able to interpret engineer drawings, make the necessary calculations, and then independently plan and carry out most common machining tasks with proficiency and within industry-standard timeframes.

The Welding Technology program is designed to prepare the student in the basic processes of oxyacetylene and arc welding plus many specialized welding applications as options to fit the specific needs of the student. In addition, instruction is offered in related support areas such as metallurgy, tooling, drafting, pattern layout and characteristics of materials. Thus the program offers preparation for both entry-level jobs as well as welding inspectors.

The student will be required to purchase a basic set of tools which will be used in class and later on the job. Tool lists will be given out by the instructor during the first week of classes.
