Introduction to Echocardiographic Evaluation

Course Description: An introduction to echocardiography including 2D, M-mode, spectral and color Doppler, standard echocardiographic views and measurements for each modality. Includes image orientation, scan techniques for each view and normal anatomical structures and patient positioning. (2 Lec.)

Cardiovascular Concepts

Corequisite/Concurrent: Concurrent enrollment in DMSO 2243, DSAE 1270 and DSAE 1164 or DSAE 1165.
Course Description: Cardiac embryology, fetal circulation and cardiac congenital disease including anomalies of cardiac position, venous return, A-V valves, atria and ventricles. Emphasis placed on defect anatomy and hemodynamic consequences and the surgical repair or other treatment option associated with each anomaly. Echocardiographic imaging in the pre and post-surgical patient will be covered. (3 Lec.)

Course Description: An emphasis on adult acquired cardiac pathologies. Topics include cardiovascular pathophysiology, quantitative measurements, and the application of 2-D, M-Mode, and Doppler. Recognition of the sonographic appearances of cardiovascular disease is stressed. (2 Lec., 4 Lab.)
