Beginning American Sign Language I
This is a Texas Common Course Number. This is a Core Curriculum course selected by the colleges of DCCCD.
Prerequisite Recommended: College level ready in Reading.
Course Description: This is the first semester of academic transfer American Sign Language (ASL). An introduction to the basic skills in production and comprehension of American Sign Language (ASL). Includes finger spelling and numbers. Develops conversational ability, culturally appropriate behaviors and exposes students to ASL grammar. (3 Lec., 1 Lab.)

Beginning American Sign Language II
This is a Texas Common Course Number. This is a Core Curriculum course selected by the colleges of DCCCD.
Prerequisite Required: SGNL 1301 or the equivalent or demonstrated competence approved by the instructor.
Course Description: This is the second semester of academic transfer American Sign Language (ASL) and a continuation of SGNL 1301. Develops receptive and expressive ability and allows recognition and demonstration of more sophisticated grammatical features of American Sign Language (ASL). Increases fluency and accuracy in finger spelling and numbers. (3 Lec., 1 Lab.)

Intermediate American Sign Language I
This is a Texas Common Course Number. This is a Core Curriculum course selected by the colleges of DCCCD.
Prerequisite Required: SGNL 1302 or the equivalent or demonstrated competence approved by the instructor.
Course Description: This is the third semester of academic transfer American Sign Language (ASL). The course is designed to further develop students' ASL proficiency through a review and expansion of vocabulary and grammar and through extensive communicative practice. Sustained attention is given to deaf culture, its values, norms, history, literature, and folklore. (3 Lec.)

Intermediate American Sign Language II
This is a Texas Common Course Number. This is a Core Curriculum course selected by the colleges of DCCCD.
Prerequisite Required: SGNL 2301 or the equivalent or demonstrated competence approved by the instructor.
Course Description: This is the fourth semester of academic transfer American Sign Language (ASL) and a continuation of SGNL 2301. The course aims to further develop students' overall ASL proficiency and knowledge of deaf culture. Emphasized topics include translation between ASL and English and the role and responsibilities of interpreters. In addition, significant attention is devoted to the local deaf community, its organizations, support services and social events. Guest lectures and class outings provide students a forum in which to interact with members of this community. (3 Lec.)
