Mexican-American Politics
This is a Texas Common Course Number. This is a Core Curriculum course selected by the colleges of DCCCD.
Prerequisite Required: One of the following must be met: (1) DREA 0093 AND DWRI 0093; (2) English as a Second Language (ESOL) 0044 AND 0054; or (3) have met Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Reading and Writing standards. College level ready in Reading and Writing.
Course Description: The influence of Mexican-Americans on United States government and policies with special attention given to participation in local, state, and national politics with particular emphasis on the Southwest and Texas, Mexican-American cultural ascendancy on the nation, impact of immigrants and immigration policy in relation to the US labor market, and evaluation of failures and successes of Mexican-American empowerment strategies. (3 Lec.)
