Principles of Financial Accounting
This is a Texas Common Course Number.
Prerequisite: TSI met or exempt in math, or equivalent.
Course Description: This course is an introduction to the fundamental concepts of financial accounting as prescribed by U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) as applied to transactions and events that affect business organizations. Students will examine the procedures and systems to accumulate, analyze, measure, and record financial transactions. Students will use recorded financial information to prepare a balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows, and statement of shareholders’ equity to communicate the business entity’s results of operations and financial position to users of financial information who are external to the company. Students will study the nature of assets, liabilities, and owners’ equity while learning to use reported financial information for purposes of making decisions about the company. Students will be exposed to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). (3 Lec.)

Principles of Managerial Accounting

Prerequisite: ACCT 2301.
Course Description: This course is an introduction to the fundamental concepts of managerial accounting appropriate for all organizations. Students will study information from the entity’s accounting system relevant to decisions made by internal managers, as distinguished from information relevant to users who are external to the company. The emphasis is on the identification and assignment of product costs, operational budgeting and planning, cost control, and management decision making. Topics include product costing methodologies, cost behavior, operational and capital budgeting, and performance evaluation. (3 Lec.)

Role of the Expert, Expert Testimony and the Expert Report
This is a Local Need Course.
Prerequisite: ACNT 1373 or ACNT 2303 and ACNT 1305 or ACNT 1375.
Course Description: Forensic accountants serve a variety of clients in a variety of roles. This course will explore these different roles whether as a consultant or expert, working for the plaintiff, defense or a regulator. In addition, the course will address issues confronted by the expert in developing and issuing an expert report. Other topics include the preparation and presentation methods needed to effective present both direct testimony and cross-examination and to enable the expert to withstand challenges from opposing counsel. Course Description: An introduction to the accounting principles and reporting practices of government organizations on the state and local level. Topics include the fund and governmental financial reporting model, government financial wide statement reporting, the preparation of fund and government-wide financial statements, footnote disclosures and management discussion and analysis. Business Valuation

Course Description: The objective of this course is to provide a framework for business valuation using financial accounting information. To attain the objective, the course will rely on ‘fundamental analysis’, which implies the use of financial reports and other relevant information to produce pro-forma financial statements and then use them to estimate a value for the business. Topics include advanced issues in accounting, earnings quality, performance measurement, cash flows and accounting-based valuation and trading strategies. Course Description: This course will provide the student with an overview of the law related to damages and valuates of closely held businesses or assets that have no clearly established market valuation. The student will study various techniques available to determine forensic damages and forensic valuation.
