ENVR 1401 (4 Credit Hours)

Environmental Science I
This is a Texas Common Course Number. This is a Core Curriculum course selected by the colleges of DCCCD.
Prerequisite Required: One of the following must be met: (1) DREA 0093 or AND DWRI 0093; (2) English as a Second Language (ESOL) 0044 AND 0054; or (3) have met Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Reading and Writing standards. College level ready in Reading.
Course Description: Interdisciplinary study of both natural (biology, chemistry, geology) and social (economics, politics, ethics) sciences as they apply to the environment. Focus on current global concerns, including, global warming, overpopulation, deforestation, pollution, biodiversity and resource use. Practical laboratory experience emphasizes the application of fundamental principles of biology, chemistry and geology as well as critical thinking and analysis. (3 Lec., 3 Lab.)

Environmental Science II

Prerequisite: College level ready in Reading. One of the following must be met: (1) DREA 0093 or AND DWRI 0093; (2) English as a Second Language (ESOL) 0044 AND 0054; or (3) have met Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Reading and Writing standards. ; prereq is “required” per MGreer effective summer 2016 - bjw 2/22/16;

Focus on energy issues, global warming, ozone loss, land use, conservation and management, deforestation, biodiversity, the history of environmental law and regulation and local environmental problems.
