Educating Young Children
This is an Academic Transfer Credit Course Number.
Prerequisite: DREA 0093 or English as a Second Language (ESOL) 0044 or have met the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standard in Reading.
Corequisite/Concurrent: Students will be required to submit to and pass a criminal background search by the certification date as prescribed by the program and college. Failure to comply will result in the student being dropped from the course.
Course Description: An introduction to the education of the young child, including developmentally appropriate practices and programs, theoretical and historical perspectives, ethical and professional responsibilities, and current issues. Students are required to participate in 16 hours of field experience with children from infancy through age 12 in variety of settings with varied and diverse populations. Course content is aligned with State Board for Educator Certification Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities Standards. (3 Lec.)
