Degree Plan Code: C1.FIRE.ARSON The Fire and Arson Investigation Certificate provides students with the technical and professional knowledge to prepare for a career in fire and arson investigation. The program is designed for students who desire employment and/or **certification as an Arson Investigator. All credits earned in this program may be applied toward the Associate in Applied Sciences Degree in Fire Protection Technology. **In order to be certified by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection as a Basic Arson Investigator, an individual must possess a current basic peace officer's license from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education or documentation that the individual is a federal law enforcement officer; hold a current commission as a peace officer with the employing entity for which the arson investigations will be done; and complete a commission approved basic fire investigation training program and successfully pass the commission examination.

Degree Plan Code: AAS.FIRE.PROTECT The Associate Degree Program in Fire Protection Technology integrates professional firefighting technical skills related to the everyday demands of the profession with academic and fire science courses covering fire service organization, strategy and tactics, fire codes and alarm and extinguishing systems, to provide graduates with the necessary ancillary knowledge to advance into supervisory and/or management level positions. The program is designed for students employed or those who desire employment in the fire service.

++MATH +++Social/Behavioral Science Elective - must be selected from the AAS Core Options for Social/Behavioral Science.
++++Elective - any three-credit hour COSC course +++++Humanities/Fine Arts Elective - must be selected from the AAS Core Options for Humanities/Fine Arts. NOTE: Both FIRT and FIRS rubric courses are WECM courses and MAY NOT transfer to a four-year program as part of the transferable credits for the four-year degree. The following courses will be given as non-transferable credit to students who have successfully met the requirements for becoming certified in basic structure fire suppression as set forth in the Standards Manual for Fire Protection Personnel, Section 423.3 - Minimum Standards for Basic Structure Fire Protection Personnel Certification. A student must meet all registration requirements set forth by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and the colleges of the Dallas County Community College District. A student must file a Fire Protection Technology degree plan with the college and successfully complete at least six (6) hours of Fire Protection Technology courses prior to applying for non-transferable academic credit. The credit awarded will not be assigned a grade, but will be recorded as "credit awarded":
