Degree Plan Code: C1.RBPT.RATERSPEC

This program is designed to provide students interested in residential building performance as an option for training as a rater or building performance specialist.

The career path as a rater is designed to prepare students for careers as residential energy conservation code officials, home energy raters, and residential green raters and verifiers. The program uses a systems approach to evaluate and score the health, safety, comfort, durability, environmental quality, and energy efficiency of a home.

The career path as a building performance specialist is designed to prepare students for careers as consultants using a variety of diagnostic tools to identify health, safety, comfort, durability, environmental quality, and energy efficiency deficiencies in a home, make recommendations specifically addressing those deficiencies, verify the performance of installed improvements, and, above all, protect the health and safety of those who inhabit the home. Emphasis will be placed on making sound economic recommendations regarding the combination of building technologies, energy loads, and onsite power generation, to meet the qualifications of a net zero energy home.

Since not all courses in this program are transferable, students enrolling in this program who may plan to transfer to a four-year institution should consult with an advisor or counselor regarding transfer requirements.

A student must complete all courses in ONE specialty track option (Rater or Building Performance Specialist) to be awarded the certificate.
