This program is designed to provide students interested in Engine Technology as an option for training in Marine Engine Technology or Small Engine Technology.

The career path as a marine engine mechanic is designed to train students to meet entry-level requirements in the field of marine engine mechanics. This will include theory, diagnosis, repair, overhaul and maintenance of outboard marine engines. Included in this program is the study of outboard marine engine fuel, electrical and ignition systems, engine overhaul and tune-up,and lower units. Throughout the entire program an emphasis is placed on accepted shop techniques used throughout the outboard marine engine service industry.

The career path as a small engine mechanic is designed to train students to meet entry-level requirements in the field of small engine mechanics. This will include theory, diagnosis, repair, overhaul amaintenance of small engines used on lawn mowers, garden tractors, and other small equipment. Included in this program is the study of small engine carburetion and electrical systems, engine overhaul andtune-up, and belt, chain, and direct drive power systems. Throughout the entire program an emphasis is placed on accepted shop techniques used throughout the small engine powered equipment industry.

Since not all courses in this program are transferable, students enrolling in this program who may plan to transfer to a four-year institution should consult with an advisor or counselor regarding transfer requirements.

CREDIT HOURS

A student must complete all courses in ONE specialty track option (Marine or Small Engine) to be awarded the certificate.
