TECA 1303 (3 Credit Hours)

Families, School and Community
This is an Academic Transfer Credit Course Number. This is a Core Curriculum course selected by the colleges of DCCCD.
Prerequisite: One of the following must be met: (1) DREA 0093 or (2) English as a Second Language (ESOL) 0044 or (3) have met the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Reading standard.
Corequisite/Concurrent: Students will be required to submit to and pass a criminal background search as prescribed by the program and college.
Course Description: A study of the child, family, community and school, including parent education and involvement, family and community lifestyles, child abuse, and current family life issues. Students are required to participate in 16 hours of field experiences with children from infancy through age 12 in a variety of settings with varied and diverse populations. Course content is aligned with State Board for Educator Certification Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities Standards. (3 Lec.)

Educating Young Children
This is an Academic Transfer Credit Course Number.
Prerequisite: DREA 0093 or English as a Second Language (ESOL) 0044 or have met the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standard in Reading.
Corequisite/Concurrent: Students will be required to submit to and pass a criminal background search by the certification date as prescribed by the program and college. Failure to comply will result in the student being dropped from the course.
Course Description: An introduction to the education of the young child, including developmentally appropriate practices and programs, theoretical and historical perspectives, ethical and professional responsibilities, and current issues. Students are required to participate in 16 hours of field experience with children from infancy through age 12 in variety of settings with varied and diverse populations. Course content is aligned with State Board for Educator Certification Pedagogy and Professional Responsiblities Standards. (3 Lec.)

Wellness of the Young Child

Course Description: A study of the factors that impact the well-being of the young child including healthy behavior, food, nutrition, fitness, and safety practices. Focus on local and national standards and legal implications of relevant policies and regulations. Students are required to participate in 16 hours of field experience with children from infancy through age 12 in a variety of settings with varied and diverse populations. Course content is aligned with State Board for Educator Certification Pedagogy and Professional Responsiblities Standards. (3 Lec.)
