Introduction to Clinical Laboratory Science

Prerequisite: MLAB or BITC student or approval of instructor.
Course Description: An introduction to medical laboratory science, structure, equipment, and philosophy. (3 Lab.)

Prerequisite: MLAB 1335 with a minimum grade of "C."
Course Description: Practical, general workplace training supported by an individualized learning plan developed by the employer, college, and student. (8 Ext.)

Immunology/Serology

Prerequisite: Acceptance in the Medical Laboratory Technology Program or Biotechnology program.
Course Description: An introduction to the theory and application of basic immunology, including the immune response, principles of antigen-antibody reactions, and the principles of serological procedures as well as quality control, quality assurance, and safety. (2 Lec., 3 Lab.)

Hematology
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: Acceptance into the Medical Laboratory Technology Program with completion of BIOL 2401 or BIOL 1470 and ENGL 1301.
Course Description: The study of blood cells in normal and abnormal conditions. Instruction in the theory and practical application of hematology procedures, including quality control, quality assurance, safety, manual and/or automated methods as well as blood cell maturation sequences, and normal and abnormal morphology with associated diseases. (3 Lec., 4 Lab.)

Molecular Diagnostics for Clinical Laboratory
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: Acceptance into the Medical Laboratory Technology Program with completion of BIOL 2401 or BIOL 1470 and English 1301.
Course Description: A comprehensive overview of the fundamental principles of clinical molecular diagnostics and explores the use of molecular techniques in the diagnosis of disease. (1 Lec. 4 Lab.)

Immunohematology
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: Acceptance into the Medical Laboratory Technology Program.
Course Description: A study of blood antigens and antibodies. Presents quality control, basic laboratory technique and safety. Includes the principles, procedures and clinical significance of test results in genetics, blood group systems, pre-transfusion testing, adverse effects of transfusions, donor selection and components, and hemolytic disease of the newborn. (2 Lec., 4 Lab.)

Clinical Chemistry
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: Acceptance into the Medical Laboratory Technology Program.
Course Description: An introduction to the principles, procedures, physiological basis, and significance of testing performed in Clinical Chemistry. Includes quality control, reference values, and safety. (3 Lec., 4 Lab.)


MLAB 2434 (4 Credit Hours)

Microbiology
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: Acceptance into the Medical Laboratory Technology Program.
Course Description: Instruction in the theory, practical application, and pathogenesis of clinical microbiology, including collection, quality control, quality assurance, safety, setup, identification, susceptibility testing, and reporting results. (3 Lec., 4 Lab.)
