Global Cultures
This is a Texas Common Course Number. This is a Core Curriculum course selected by the colleges of DCCCD.
Prerequisite: DREA 0093 or English as a Second Language (ESOL) 0044 or have met the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standard in Reading.
Course Description: This course introduces students to the diverse patterns of human behavior and adaptation around the world. Focus will be on key anthropological concepts and methods, and their application to understanding cultural variation, adaptation and interaction in an increasingly global world. Topics will include different forms of sociocultural systems through history to the present, globalization, adaptation, sustainability, and cultural constructions. Special emphasis is given to cross-cultural comparison and analysis of basic social institutions on a global scale to provide students with an appreciation and understanding of the underlying unity of diverse cultural expressions (3 Lec.)
