Wireless Site Survey

Prerequisite: Understanding of basic wireless LAN and basic networking concepts.
Course Description: This hands-on course trains students to determine optimum installation locations for wireless LAN access points, wireless bridges, and RFID readers, assess impacts of RF transmission impairments, and document findings for enterprise and public wireless LANs. This course includes demonstrations and student exercises. Each student will learn the objective evaluation of the environment and obtain skills for performing wireless LAN site surveys. Wireless Sensors Network

Prerequisite: Recommended that students have beginning level of C programming and/or shell scripting experience.
Course Description: This course is designed to enable students to setup the programming environment, configure sensors, deploy sensors, and integrate sensors in the existing network environment. This course utilizes the TinyOS programming model and nesC terminology to create sensor applications that can be deployed on Motes in the wireless sensor network. This course enables students to interface with the sensor network and log collected data on a web interface utilizing radio communication's software stack. (3 Lec., 3 Lab.)

Course Description: This course will teach individuals in the renewable energy field how to read, interpret and correlate schematic drawings, in the fields of electronics, construction trades, mechanical, electrical, pneumatics, and hydraulics. These students will be able to read a drawing, go to the physical device and produce the drawing, or begin at the physical device and reduce it to a drawing. Microwave Fundamentals

Course Description: This course is an introduction to microwave theory and applications, transmitter and receiver. The student will state the principles of operation and demonstrate the proper, safe operation of microwave signal sources: reflex klystron, backward wave oscillator (BWO), traveling wave tube (TWT), magnetron, gunn effect device, and impact diode. The student will demonstrate the use of various types of measurement devices including but not limited to: microwave power meters, voltage standing wave radio (VSWR) meters, slotted lines, frequency meters, and attenuators. The student will perform the calculation and conversion of measured values to a useful form; and verify through calculations and measurements characteristics of a transmission line and a transmission load. The student will demonstrate theory and use of the following waveguide and coaxial components given ZO and ZL: hybrid junctions, attenuators, detectors, modulators, matching stubs, and directional couplers. The student will state the principles of operation of microwave antennas, phased arrays, and lenses; and state the operating principles of the following terms: time domain reflectometer (TDR), multiplexing, and pulsed radar.
