• Students pursuing this certificate are waived from the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards, but must meet course prerequisites.
• Complete at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College.

The Medical Coder Certificate is a 32-credit hour award that provides training in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, electronic health records, legal and ethical standards in health care as well coding and insurance procedures.

• Upon award completion, students will have the technical skills needed to enter the healthcare market as an entry-level medical coder/biller in a variety of health care settings.
• The curriculum provides a foundation for students to prepare and complete the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam administered by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).

NOTE: Students enrolling in this program who plan to transfer to a four-year institution should consult an advisor or counselor regarding transfer requirements and the transferability of these courses to the four-year institution of their choice.
