- Students pursuing this award program are required to meet Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards and course prerequisites.

This two-semester program offers registered and graduate nurses the opportunity to acquire additional theory and skills required for patient care in the surgical setting. The perioperative approach to patient care is employed. Principles of surgical asepsis, patient care, use of surgical supplies and equipment, and ethical/legal aspects are presented. The emphasis of the program is on the scrub and circulating roles in perioperative nursing. Nurses enrolled in this program must hold a current license from the Board on Nursing for the State of Texas or be a graduate of a nursing program eligible for the next NCLEX-RN examination.
